After a busy and stressful past few weeks, I finally got to relax and actually get in the holiday spirit! This face mask was the perfect way for me to both unwind and get festive. It smells like hot chocolate. Try not to eat it. But, if you do, it’s perfectly okay since it has the same ingredients as raw chocolate sauce. Speaking of ingredients, let’s talk about what makes this mask so amazing for not just your nose, but also your complexion. Cacao powder contains polyphenol antioxidants, the same thing found in green tea and red wine. This means it’s great for promoting youthful skin and is anti-aging. Obviously coconut oil–pretty much the best thing ever–is SUPER moisturizing. It’s also antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory (no more acne-YAY! 🙂 ). Raw honey, like coconut oil, is moisturizing and anti-inflamatory. Additionally it helps to clean your pores and prevent acne as it is antibacterial and antifungal. Although I must admit I only put it in for the candy-cane-like fragrance, peppermint oil actually has skin benefits too! It can give a boost to dull skin and help balance out skin oils. My skin feels sooooo soft and bright (perfect angelic glow for Christmas) after I’ve washed this off.
–Side note—Check out my new PJ’s. This polka-dot shirt-dress is soooo comfy and perfect for me since my legs always get hot at night. I ordered it from Forever 21 on Black Friday in addition to this adorable set. A little birdie told me I’ll be getting the same shirt-dress style in plaid for my Christmas jammies.
Hot Chocolate Face Mask
Pilates Pearls and Peanut Butter
Makes about 1/2 cup
- 2 TBSP coconut oil
- 4 TBSP cacao powder
- 2 tsp raw honey
- 1-3 drops peppermint oil (optional)
Place the 2 TBSP coconut oil and 2 tsp honey in the microwave for about 30 seconds or until liquid. Next, stir in the cacao powder and peppermint oil until there are no more clumps. Place in an airtight container for up to 3 weeks.
The coconut oil may make the mask solidify. This is perfectly fine as it will return to a liquid state once you touch it. Simply apply an even coat to a clean face and let it sit for 15-30 minutes (it doesn’t dry hard on your face).
Once you’re ready, wash it off with warm water, moving your hands in circular motions on your face, and pat dry.
Only rule about this mask is that it MUST be worn while watching a Christmas flick or dancing to holiday toons.
Kidding, kidding, but seriously, take some time to slow down and enjoy this season. It only comes around once a year and you don’t want to look back on life and realize you never lived in the moment. I’ve been struggling with this myself in the midst of projects and tests.
Life’s too short not to EAT Christmas cookies by the tree,
SMILE–and mean it–,
DANCE around in fuzzy socks,
Watch a Christmas movie with the ones you LOVE,
Just LOOK at the lights in awe,
TALK around the dinner table,
LIVE in the moment.
So, indulge in your favorite holiday treat, go see Christmas lights, or ice skate this weekend. You’ll feel so much more satisfied and revitalized next week if you actually relax.
Enjoy the moment,
xoxo Meah <3
