WIAW #6 Leg Day, ACV, and Grocery Finds

Let it be documented here: I, Meah Konstanzer, did a morning workout. By choice. *GASP*

On this particular Saturday, I was finishing up my first time through my first of Fitness Blender’s 5 Day Challenges; the 5 Day Workout Challenge to Burn Fat & Build Lean Muscle. I found that it made it much faster and easier to get in workouts during the busy week since they were already planned out for me. Plus, I got in great workouts and definitely built some strength. This summer, I’ll definitely be trying their 5 Day Strong and Lean Challenge. Since I knew I had a fun, but busy day ahead, I made the decision to workout in the morning. Imagine that.

I got up around 8:00-8:30ish and after gulping down my usual water, washing my face, and making my bed, I headed downstairs to get in my workout: Day 5- HIIT Cardio Butt and Thigh Workout and to add in a little burnout, I did 10 rounds of 20 seconds on, 10 seconds off burpees. That burpee burnout may only be 5 minutes, but it sure does work up a sweat!

Breakfast Pt. 1-

To get some quick fuel to my muscles post workout, I made this DEE-LISH green smoothie. In went 1/4 cup Vanilla Bob’s Red Mill Protein Powder (plant-based, probiotic rich, nutrition packed from chia seeds, no funky ingredients, and so, SO yummy!),~3 cups of spinach, ~1/2 frozen banana, 1/2 cup Califia Farms Almond Milk, 1/2 cup water, a pinch of salt, cinnamon, and 1 Cheribundi frozen tart cherry puree pack. I am NOT a smoothie person (I love to eat too much), but this protein powder has got me in the smoothie groove! It was so refreshing and thick that it was like a milkshake.

While I was making my oats (breakfast pt. 2), I drank a little glass of some apple cider vinegar water. Apple cider vinegar is beneficial for a ton of reasons, but the main reasons I chose to have some this particular morning was for my skin, digestion, and energy. Skin: In the past, I’ve found that when I have some apple cider vinegar, each day, my skin is clearer and brighter. Digestion: For WAY too long, I was on acid reducers for the GERD that I’ve had since birth. This means, my digestive system suffered a lot and got thrown out of whack, Your stomach NEEDS acid to properly break down nutrients, Energy: Especially after a workout, the potassium and enzymes in apple cider vinegar can be really beneficial, hello muscle recovery! Additionally (as I recently learned) due to the amino acids in it, apple cider vinegar can help fight against the lactic acid buildup which leads to soreness. Pretty neat, huh? Or, maybe I’m just a nutrition nerd ;).

Breakfast Pt. 2-

After I showered, got dressed in actual non-workout clothes (shocker for the weekend), and did my makeup for the day, it was time for a real meal.

I’m not going to lie, something very tragic happened while I was making breakfast.

I looked away for but one second and…

THE OATS FREAKING OVERFLOWED!!!! Why do the Heavens curse me?!?!?

I kid, I kid. But seriously, what’s up with the oatmeal instructions never mentioning “Oh yeah, there’s like a 99% chance this stuff’s gonna spill all over your microwave after like 30 seconds.” End rant.

Breakfast Pt. 2 was a bowl of pumpkin oats (rolled oats, water, cinnamon, pumpkin puree) topped with a banana, a mix of Justin’s maple almond butter and Trader Joe’s salted creamy peanut butter, and more cinnamon, of course. On the side I also had my usual mug of matcha green tea with lemon.

Next up, my mom and I headed out to my haircut appointment. After this, we stopped by Home Goods to look for some nut butters, Marshall’s to check their shoes and foods, DSW, and then Trader Joe’s

I may not have found nut butters, but I did score some awesome foodie finds, like Purely Elizabeth’s Grain-Free Granola! I’d been looking everywhere for this and my heart was aflutter when I found it.

I also found this beet root powder. I’ve never really had nicely prepared beets, so I’m not sure that I’m a fan, but I can’t deny that they’re great for you. I figured this powder would be an easy way to add some beet power into my diet. I’ve tried a few teaspoons in a smoothie so far and it didn’t impact the flavor at all.

Ahhh yes, my favorite Trader Joe’s item to date: Sweet Plantain Chips. I don’t know if these are sold at all Trader Joe’s since I haven’t really seen anyone else mention them, but if you can get your hands on these, DO IT! They have no added sugar at all, yet have the most dreamy, sweet taste and smell. Plus, they’re super crunchy! My favorite way to have them has been with hummus.

So, momma and I got a liiiittttle carried away with all our shopping (as we always do) meaning I was pretty HANGRY by lunch. When I got home I whipped this up as quickly as I could and had to stop myself from scarfing it all down before I could get a picture. I had two slices of Canyon Bakehouse’s Cinnamon Raisin (best gluten free bread out there!) topped with a little avocado mashed with lemon and sea salt, one egg and two egg whites, steamed broccoli with lemon, a carrot, and strawberries.

The meal was missing a little something, so I also added a spoon of hummus for good measure.

The rest of my afternoon was filled with blog work, meal planning, and then a trip to Whole Foods and Roots.

I’ve been searching for more natural ketchup and honey mustard that don’t have tons of sugar or funky ingredients for a while, so when I stumbled upon these at Whole Foods, I had to pick them up.

Another find was this vegan cashew cheese that I got from Roots. It was okay, but no Kite Hill. I have to say, they still remain my top vegan cheese brand by far.

Again, we spent more time at the store than planned, but that’s alright. For a quick dinner, my mom and I fixed up out favorite brown rice tortilla pizzas. I spread mine with my new cashew cheese, then added on Kale Tomato Basil Organic Bello Pasta Sauce mixed with diced tomatoes, steamed broccoli, grilled asparagus, and two little Applegate Chicken Apple links cut into little pieces. This+some TV=the perfect way to relax after a busy Saturday.

And because no day is complete without a sweet treat, I also had a little bowl of some Mint and Chocolate Nada Moo while flipping through the latest Runner’s Magazine.

Thanks so much to Peas and Carrots for staring the WIAW sharing fun and thanks to Sprint 2 the Table and The Big Man’s World for hosting the link-up!What I Ate Wednesday Button

I definitely run in the AM. Watching the sun come up is so beautiful! I really want to try plantain chips because I love roasted plantains. I just got a food dehydrator so that might happen soon 🙂

I think I’ll also have to start doing my runs in the morning as the temperatures get hotter. Plantain are a recent obsession of mine, but I haven’t tried making them homemade yet either. I might have to do that soon too 🙂 !
